A group of Lancaster County seniors called Change The Board is the latest to seek an HOA law for South Carolina. The group’s proposed bill focuses only on communities in which the developer has maintained, or is maintaining, majority control of the Board of Directors of the HOA.
Our mission is to convince the South Carolina Legislature to pass a law that would require developers to gradually relinquish their currently legal and autocratic control over seats on the HOA Board of Directors.
The founders of Change The Board are Jo Ann Koffman, Mike Truland, and Judy Slade. We think our community is one of the most beautiful in the state. We treasure our tree-lined streets, our friends, our lifestyle. We think of our community as a “small town.” In the past, however, for eight years, we had no voice in our governance. We had “taxation without representation.” With no oversight of our HOA Board, we suffered the effects of incompetence, negligence, and mismanagement, and saw tens of thousands of our dollars misspent.
