In response to our own HOA mismanagement issues, we formed Change The Board, an organization supporting a cost-free law to protect homeowners and give them vitally needed insight into, and oversight of, HOAs in developer-controlled communities. As property owners in our community, we deserve to see how our HOA spends our money! And how our HOA governs us!
As CTB emailed updates of its efforts to obtain an HOA bill, homeowners forwarded our messages to friends known to be living in other troubled HOA communities across the state. We quickly gained more than a thousand supporters. Those supporters also emailed us to discuss their many problems with HOAs.
Here are just a very few examples of HOA problems across South Carolina:
Further, Change The Board receives many emails similar to the following:
“The developer says he will never give up control...We are literally paying nearly $3,000.00 a year per homeowner in HOA fees with no clarity as to where they are spending our money…He [the developer] ignores every email and voice message without any response.”
And much, much more. If homeowners had served on the Board of Directors, they might have thwarted all of these problems.
